Rayman / DK Kong swimming logic

Hello everyone ! I'm making a 2D metroidvania game in which one of the level is a water level (we can also find this type of level in DK Kong Tropical freeze), and i want to implement an advanced swimming logic, pretty similar to the one implemented in Rayman Legends. I want to know how can I go from a grounded logic (where a character can walk, jump, dash etc) to a "water" logic, how can i move my character in all directions and vice versa, how do I have to manage my gravity or velocity, how to rotate my character (rigidbody2D, box collider 2D). I've never seen any tutorial on this topic, so please, can someone help me achieving such logic ?? It's very urgent ! Additional details : my player's motion is based essentially on velocity, except for the jump, where I've used forces (Forcemode2D.Impulse).
